Reserved for Tony Graffiti 40" x 40" 2010

This quilt contains my photos of graffiti in Europe, and my hand-painted, monoprinted, and flour resist painted fabrics.  The title is from a specific piece of graffiti I saw in Birmingham, England.  With simple construction, I wanted to capture the scattered complexity of  graffiti art we glimpse as we speed by.

  1. "graffiti art" makes me smile.

Back in 1978, my Art Prof's TA was doing his PhD on "The Art of Graffiti." He was a gangsta from LA, and none of his slides showed much more than gang tags.

But I guess he was on to something, because it certainly has evolved into what I would label as art...

    thanks for the memories!
