Gift Quilts

Lately I have been thinking about giving up quilting.  As I approach the end of a 2 year project to have made a quilt for all my nieces and nephews--see above--the reasons for sewing more of them dwindle.
Not that I don't have plenty of projects lined up.  But it's getting harder to answer the question Why make more?

  1. I've been struggling with this feeling, too. I'm the type of person who needs a reason to make a quilt, whether for a new baby, a quilt show, a challenge, etc. Otherwise if I make another one, it ends up being put away in a bin along with all the rest...

  2. You have to follow your heart. Just don't give everything away because maybe in the future you might want to give it a go again.

  3. I agree with Barb. Our lives wax and wane with different interests. Creativity is one of my strong holds. It keeps me grounded and happy. And there are so many other beautiful things to do in this world, the possibilities are endless.

  4. I used to ask myself the same question. I have many unfinished projects and no desire to complete them. Then it struck me that I quilt for the process, not the product. I find quilting to be stimulating. I enjoy the math, the creativity, the feel of fabric, the colours .... I love the quilts that I have finished, but I don't force myself to continue to work on a piece that no longer interests me. Your art quilt are so beautiful. Maybe after having made so many for others, you need to focus on you.

  5. Your recent quilts are beautiful works of art. Sara, do not give up quilting. Soon our new president will have us involved in a war. Your quilts will cheer up our wounded service women and men. Instead of quitting, how about just tapering off?

  6. Sara, I was really feeling unfocused and almost rejected when I mastered out of my guild's shows last February. Plus I was feeling listless and pudgy. Rather than giving up quilting all together, I gave myself permission to take a break, adopt a puppy, and get some exercise. Almost one year has gone by, and my interest in quilting is returning. It's okay to take a break!
